PVD Prep is seeking permission from the State of Rhode Island to expand our enrollment beginning in the 2027-2028 school year.
If approved, PVD Prep would grow from 252 students to 420 students. We would continue to serve middle school students in the City of Providence. Read more below!
FAQs regarding expansion:
Why is PVD Prep applying for an expansion? Every year PVD Prep receives more than five applications for enrollment for each anticipated available seat. We are excited about the opportunity to expand our impact by serving additional students over time.
How many additional students would PVD Prep serve? If approved, PVD Prep would grow from 252 students in grades five through eight to 420 students in grades five through eight. This would increase our enrollment from three class in each grade to five classes in each grade.
If approved, what would change about PVD Prep’s mission and model? Nothing about PVD Prep’s mission or model would change with expansion. PVD Prep would continue to serve middle school students in the City of Providence.
Where will the expansion take place? Our goal is to renovate a vacant building that is adjacent to our existing school. We are working with Vision 3 Architects to envision an expanded campus that would include a new auditorium, gymnasium and green space.
When would the expansion take place? If approved, PVD Prep would add two additional fifth grade classrooms in the 2027-2028 school year. Then we would grow one grade per year until reaching full scale in the 2030-2031 school year.
How can I support this project? Send your letters of support to expansion@pvdprep.org! We will collect them and provide them to the Rhode Island Board of Education.
